Currently labeled as the PS4.5, Kotaku claim that Sony is working on a new system which will advance from the current PS4 technology. No, it won’t be a PS5, but rather a PS4.5. In other words, it would be half way towards a PlayStation 5. The new console is expected to have the ability to render games in 4K resolution. The new hardware is likely to help assist PlayStation VR games that might demand more power.
The rumor is further supported by developers who claim to have discussed a PS4.5 with Sony at GDC. Other than this information, we remain guessing as to what other features this new console might have. Will it be slimmer? Will certain games be made specifically for this console? What price will it be? These are just a few questions to ponder. What’s more, if it is called PS4 4.5, does this indicate that we aren’t that far away from learning about a PS5?
